About us

September 2026

We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of New Vision Art. It has been 30 years since Mark Hartshorn met Brian Kershisnik and this venture started.

Recently I found an old interview with Mark that tells how New Vision Art began.

What is the underlying story of this venture?

Following a near fatal brain hemorrhage and subsequent brain surgery at Johns Hopkins hospital I was forced to retire at age 36 from an elite executive search firm in Washington DC. The brain damage and heavy medication left me with severe anxiety and depression, cognitive deficits, physical weakness and a seizure disorder. Knowing that my wife Ann and our five children would need extended family support we sold our beautiful home in Potomac, Maryland and moved back to Orem, Utah.

I have always loved the arts and particularly the visual arts. My mother is a talented amateur painter. Most of my friends growing up were artists. Even in elementary school my favorite books were biographies of great artists. I admired their creativity, imagination, courage and work ethic. My secret dream was always to make my fortune and then retire to become an art collector and patron. Permanent disability made that secret dream all but impossible.

A couple of years after we returned to Orem, I was a little more stable and was able to get out of the house some. The first thing I did was head to Springville to the Springville Art Museum Spring Salon. I was amazed at the quality of the works in the show. There was one small oil painting that really spoke to me. On the last day of the exhibition I went back for the third time and purchased Brian Kershisnik’s “dances through disaster.”

It was a love for collecting art and wanting to share it with friends that started our business. We started with publishing notecards with images from Brian and sent boxes of notecards to 100 friends.

June 2022

We love our New Vision Art friends and artists. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and taste for the beautiful!

Recently this quote from Audrey Hepburn caught my eye.

“I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”

We believe that surrounding yourself with those you love and with what you love makes life more beautiful. It creates a place where one can emerge more secure, centered, and able to face the storms of life.  The right art can set a tone for more awareness and gratitude for everyday miracles. Art is such a simple thing to add to your life. That is what we are passionate about at New Vision Art. We want to assist in adding beauty to your lives. Watch for miracles to happen.

You make life more beautiful,

Ann

January 2021

Thank you for the love and support you have given New Vision Art through the years. We welcome 2021 with great hope, expectations, and  much gratitude. We love and appreciate our art community, patrons, and friends. Our hearts go out to those who are ill and struggling, and hope that 2021 brings greater health, peace, and love to you and yours.

When Mark and I started New Vision Art over 20 years ago, our purpose was to support artists in their endeavors. We love the ability art has to speak to the soul and are ecstatic to share this miracle with others.

As we’ve grown as a business we have had the most amazing part-time employees; I couldn’t ask for a better team to work with, or way to spend my days. We thoroughly enjoy what we are doing and our commitment to this business has never been stronger. It is our hope that New Vision Art helps to brighten your homes with art while supporting artists, printers, framers, and other business partners.

You are wonderful,

Ann Hartshorn
