Motherhood
She did what she could
There in the roses
With their petals and thorns
She tried her best to lead
And to guide
Through the briars and the blooms
Being present
Being careful
The scratches became scars
The beauty turned into memories
We close our eyes to see
And remember the way the fragrance
Wafted through the air
And the thorns seem to almost disappear
It’s where she wanted to be
With me
Exploring it all
Even in the winter and fall
When it was prickly and bare
Then we would know spring
The beginning of green
And a time to grow tall
Motherhood
She did what she could
In a place she’d never been
She was our guide and friend
Teaching us
That beauty never ends
